   Max, that is an interesting story.

   You may also choose to note that Palin endorsed Pat Buchanan in his 1996 presidential bid. Some have wondered if it was Buchanan that introduced Palin to the GOP and the Republican party.

   This relates to your story because over the years Buchanan has appeared on separatist conspiracy talk shows. In 2006, he appeared on The Alex Jones Show (based in Austin, TX). Alex blames the U.S. government for the 9/11 attacks, H.I.V virus and countless other conspiracies. He also believes that the administration is attempting to assemble a ‘New World Order’ for the destruction of the United States. They discuss this same topic in the interview.

   The recent economic meltdown has revealed that there are unfortunately few members of the various media outlets with enough business and finance knowledge to adequately explain what’s going on. Max, you are (analogously) one of the VERY few people who actually gets what’s going on with these right-wing religious groups, what drives them and how they function. I’m so grateful for your work; I only wish there were few more Maxes around.

   Saw the first video on Crooks and Liars and was glad to see more here.

   I hope you are safe and remain safe. I fear that some of these people are very dangerous and it sounds like you and others reporting this could be at risk.

   I appreciate very much the bravery you and the others working with you are showing here and I hope that good things come your way. I know this may sound strange but not every believer in Jesus’ ministry and in Christianity is filled with hate and fear.

   If Palin can use as a standard that any association amounts to being pals, then the same standard would associate her with fringe grouips. The full article excerpted below can be read in the archives of http://www.anchoragepress.com. The national media have not looked into Palin’s assocaition with the AIP. Maybe the details in this article might help give some background.

   “Since then she’s sought to bring public attention back to the Alaskan Independence Party. She’s given interviews like the one to Pravda as well as to media a little closer to home (including a few to this paper). She’s traveled to secessionist conventions in Vermont and Tennessee.

   (Her travel to the latter was funded in part by The League of the South, one of the conference organizers, and Clark took some heat from accepting their money. At the time, speaking to the Press’s Casey Grove, Dexter Clark defended the group: “We’re not talking about a bunch of Klans-people walking around with white sheets and pointed hats,” Dexter said. “These are some pretty legitimate people with some legitimate concerns about our government.” In this interview, Clark is more circumspect. Her group doesn’t tolerate racists, whom she labels “bad dogs,” and while she might be sympathetic to some of the League of the South’s goals, “if they continue waving their flag [the flag of the Confederate States of America] they’re not gonna make their mission work.”)
