An Update

I’ll be on CNN Sunday Live tonight at 7 PM ET discussing my “Generation Chickenhawk” video. It will be a short taped segment possibly include some member of the College Republicans criticizing me. I am also told part of my video will be featured this week during The Daily Show’s Moment of Zen, so look out for that. The Minnesota Monitor has a good write-up on the eschatological contradictions that occured during Christians United for Israel’s Washington-Israel Summit.

Rick Sanchez tends to get on my nerves a lot, which is one of the many reasons why I don’t watch CNN on weekends in primetime, but I’ll watch tonight to see you discussing your video. Happy to hear that Jon Stewart has caught on to your video! I knew it would be a matter of time before it hit the mainstream and catch on.

  2. Penny says:

I have had the opinion since the Vietnam War that if Senators and
people supporting war had to go or have their sons and
daughters go, there would probably be NO war.
As long as it is someone else, whoa baby, let’s kick their
    A**!
Thanks for putting that out in the open.
Do you think that since you have that now the Bush daughters
will be suiting up to help Daddy W to win the war?
    Um, yeah.

  3. Ed Gibbons says:

I totally agree with you on this issue. I spend twenty years in the Army, I retired in 2004 while I was in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division. When I see the Congress debating the Iraq war and when Bush said things are going good over, where are is daughters and his nephews so can can win the war. If they support it have them go fight it.

  4. God bless you Max.

  5. Alex Thompson says:

    Max,
Interesting video and your 15 min of fame- I guess the
question on the Republicans serving was spur of the moment
Did you ask ahead of time for posting on the Net, but I
guess respect is not something you follow. More importantly-
WHY AREN’T YOU SERVING IN IRAQ?

  6. Mike Holmes says:

    Max,

Why don’t you take up the issue of abortion with democrats. If they believe in it and have children, why?? I think the pro-abortionists needs to go one step further and legalize post-birth abortion. Then we can abort all pro-abortionists! Then you could do a video and name it “Generation Aborted”.

  7. Richard Punko says:

How do I get to see the video besides waiting for the Daily Show?

  8. Richard Punko says:

    Where is the video?

  9. Preston Powell says:

Max, I saw the interview and it was pretty good, albeit short. I was also happy that Joshua Levs interviewed you, because had it been Rick Sanchez, he would’ve done an Oprah and cut you off every second in the interview, preventing you from getting your point across. If I’m not mistaken, I believe the College Republican guy they had to counter your remarks posted a comment on your blog when you first added the video. I could be wrong but I’m for sure it was him.

Hopefully, Keith Olbermann invites you on his show to discuss the video. Surely he has seen the video since he gave Tom DeLay a Worst Person honors a week ago due to your report.

  10. DB says:

I believe in the war against Islamic Extremism therefore I personally felt I had to get involved and sacrifice; as so many Americans do. I felt it would have been hypocritical of me not to and I understand your point. I think you, Mr. Blumenthal, should fly to Saudi Arabia or Pakistan and ask the clerics and sheiks that glamorize martyrdom (such as U.B.L.) why they haven’t done as they preach. I don’t believe you would make it back alive. Enjoy your freedom, Mr. Blumenthal.

  11. Adam Lord says:

Max, I happened to see your segment on CNN tonight, and I must say, I was somewhat
offended by the nature of your video and Rick Sanchez’s comments about the Young
Republicans. I myself am not a member of the organization, but I do support the war
effort (even if not the motive for, or conduct of, the war). I too chose to go to college
instead of enlisting in the military right out of high school. And I even decided to
pursue a graduate degree instead of joining as an officer after college. But, I, like many
others, am no less convicted about public and/or military service. We can still talk about
our support for the war effort or offer our opinion about its merits without having to
be a veteran to warrant any credibility. Perhaps circumstances exist that have prevented
people who support the war effort from actively serving. Maybe they want to join as an
officer, which would require a degree. Maybe they want to serve their country through
public service. Maybe they have situations in the personal life that keep them from
being able to actively serve in the military. And even if they did enlist or join as an officer,
most would never see combat anyway. In fact, I have two very close friends who are active
military personel who have tried to volunteer for front line assigments and have been given
excuse after excuse as to why they had to serve in a state-side MOS. I don’t doubt the
merit of keeping people honest, but I wanted you to know that blanket statements about
people who suport the war effort but are not currently fighting the war can be misguided
and offensive. Cirmstances dictate action, not convictions.

  12. HomoGeneIous says:

CLAP, CLAP , CLAP. LEAD the way Blumentahl, lead the way!!!
    Were with you 100%

  13. Mike Mullins says:

Mr. Blumenthal, Kudos! Been hoping someone would ask that very question of these (lol) “chickenhawks” (very appropriate appellation, by the way. If you ever get the chance, I hope you ask this same question of Bush and Cheney and all their Republican backers of the invasion of Iraq in Congress. P/S. Big difference between being “in country” and “in the rear with the gear” and being a COMBAT soldier or marine! Not everyone who has been in Iraq or Afghanistan was/is a combat veteran!

Thank you, Sir! Sic ‘em good!

  14. Shane says:

I have just finished my time in the US Navy. I don’t fault anyone for not wanting to serve in Iraq. I, myself would not want to serve in Iraq because there is no direct threat to America. I have just returned from serving in Yokosuka, Japan. While I was there I had officially traveled from Eritrea to Singapore to Russia. Since I have returned to America and lived here for the past 2 months I am disgusted by the media and American politicians. I’m not saying that America is a horrible nation but Americans seem to be much more apathetic and let the media and politicians tell them what to think. By my travels I have learned and understand why so many people around the world are skeptical of Americans. I have been told countless times, “We like Americans but we don’t like your government(mainly President Bush).” The world is untrusting of us because we are seen as a bully who picks on other countries but we make the same offenses but excuse ourselves. There is no reason for us to be in Iraq and there was no reason for us to invade. We want to be the sole superpower but we are one of the most irresponsible nations in the world. I understand where the college kids are coming from and I also wish people would heed the warnings of Washington and Eisenhower when they left Office.

  15. Matt says:

I missed you on CNN today, so I’ll have to try and find it on youtube. But I’ll be sure not to miss you on The Daily Show.

  16. Matt says:

It appears that you are finally becoming known in various parts of the media Max. It’s a very good thing. Your building up a lot of contacts and becoming notorious with these videos. Perhaps we could hope to see a “Blumenthal Tonight” show on CNN or MSNBC in a few years????

  17. There is no war and there (R) is no chickens .
If you go to Iraq and die (get killed ) your are stupid.

  19. dambeaver says:

One thing of note in your “Rapture/Israeli Support” video was the soldier who bounded onto the stage in uniform.

Was he a real soldier? If so, did he violate the same rule as the Marine reservist(?) who just got nailed for wearing his uniform at a demonstration?

    Just Curious

  20. Christine says:

    Hi Max,
I saw a segment on Robin & Co. this morning. All I have to
say is that I feel it is disrepectful to the soldiers
fighting to have this going on back home.
I have talked to a few soldiers after they have returned
home and have attended funerals for some that never made it home.
It does not matter how I feel about the war, what does
    matter is that people
that brew up controversy about the war are hurting the very
men and women that they are claiming to care about. I trust
Max that you are not doing this to hurt anyone, I trust that
you are doing this to make a point because you care about
this country. For that I think you are a very brave and talented
young man. As far as the people that choose not to serve? It is their choice, we are in America.
    God Bless you Max!

  21. Dave from Lexington says:

Where is the full video? I, and many others, would like to
see these Chickenhawks squirm a little.

  22. Amy says:

    Great story!
I am a college democrat and agree with what you’re doing.
If these republicans are so in favor of the war, then why
aren’t they taking a break from college to fight?
Keep up the great work reporting the truth.

  23. Bill Stephenson says:

I just saw a part of the video with the young Republicans and
I was very happy to see that the hypocracy of what they do and
say comes to light. I don’t think that they really can believe
the rhetoric, or if they do it is even scarier. I don’t know how
anyone could believe the logic of “fight them there so we don’t
have to fight them here.” It is not their homeland that is being
defended, Al-Qaeda has not loyalties anywhere they just move
to anyplace they want to go. Since we are now bogged down in Iraq
it is much easier for them to move.
Of course, while these people thought the policy was good, none
of them would go into the military to help our country.
I think that as a retired Navy veteran of 30 years and almost
3 of those years were spent in and around Vietnam, to air that
program is of the utmost importance to this country to show the
hipocracy and arrogance of “The Young (and old) Republicans”
    Thank you

  24. Josh says:

Well done. If they want to have their war let them fight it. We have created far more enemies than we have eliminated there. Its a sad state of affairs.

  25. Todd Reid says:

I loathe the college Republicans for their thoughtless shibboleths (”we’re fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here!”) but I also loathe the spineless Democrats who voted to authorize the Iraq invasion. We should expect such bellicose behavior from the right-wing gun nuts but we should also expect the Democrats to represent those of us who would like some rational debate before sending the troops off to war, and we’d like someone (anyone?) in Congress aside from the lonely voice of Senator Robert Byrd of W. Virginia, to ask very tough questions when the question of waging war arises in Congress. The Young Republicans in this video are surely blind to what their feckless leaders are doing to our great country, but they’re no more or less blind than the Young Democrats who think Hillary is any different.

  26. Kris says:

Not all in the GOP are for the war in Iraq. Check out Ron

  27. Greg Engolia says:

Most anti-war liberals are opposed to the war mainly because you are scared shitless of being shot at. Now that’s an inconvenient truth!

  28. Ben says:

You have a nice idea of sending those who support the war to fight but that argument has no more merit than me telling individuals like you who benefit from the safety of living in the States to enlist or otherwise get out of my country. By the way I consider myself a moderate but when I see people like you and how you dedicate your time to ripping down others (whether right or not) three things come to mind, the first is that you are no different than the people you rip down, and secondly the only people making a difference in this mess are overseas on their third or fourth pump, and finally those people making the difference are virtually all republican. I feel I am qualified to make that statement because I am serving on active duty.

Just saw you on the CNN website.
Funny, what is radical left wing in US, is left to left-center in Europe for instance :)

Great to see an effort to expose these Chickenhawks, Al Franken has been doing it for years, good to see some reinforcements

  30. mary wators says:

Blumenthal was a mighty brave warrior appearing on that very friendly and anti-conservative CNN and the Daily Show discussing his sneak attack on a bunch of young kids, and publishing it on the internet without their permission. And all his Weanie Warriors pat him on the back…”job well done”…”our hero”! It’s time to enlist…we need the devious scheming liberal mind to finish off this war…time for us to eliminate that ’60s “Ugly American” slogan that’s been attached to America for decades! That’s right, my Weanie Warriors, it did not begin with President Bush, nor did it began with the Bubba, the draft dodger, and his paper tiger fight he waged through the U.N, 17 WMD resolutions, against Hussein…bombing aspirin factories, and his quick response “NO” to capturing Osama, and his no-action-response to al Queda’s attacks on America throughout the world.

We all know that Clinton, Obama and Edwards will be as useless as their debates. They’ve both been weaned on the “culture of corruption”…especially Obama, (the Reszko kid) who learned the tools of the “trade” from the Chicago Daley Mob. Hillary and Bill, we remember well all the convictions of his cabinet, selling secrets to China for campaign money, shredding of Foster documents, use of FBI files against enemies or friends who didn’t obey, the destruction of emails by Hillary, the firing of all AGs..all were continuing work on Whitewater, etc.

Your the guy for us, Max! Don’t worry about anything…you’ll have the media eating out of your hands, they’ll even dream up an “audacious” image for you … like they did for Obama.

If you CHOOSE not to become a Weanie Warrior, or use your devious scheming mind to help end the war, PULLEEZE let’s then have another unsuspecting interview and video of those very elite college libs who block the military from recruiting, repeat only memorized “talking points” reiterated by their professors, carry pro-terrorists signs…guess that wouldn’t work, no publicity would be forthcoming from CNN, MSNBC, etc….they only want anti-conservative hit pieces!

  33. Dennis Bethel says:

Where do you want the war against terrorism to be fought? On American soil? Do you have a plan that you have given to your congressman. It is easy to complain, but diffucult to come up with a plan. I haven’t heard any of the current “Presidential” candidates give us a plan. But what I do know is that we are safer at this time than we were.

  34. Matt says:

Hey Max did you catch the Democratic youtube debate??
After reading Coulter’s latest column, I’m compelled to ask:
Do you blog from your mother’s basement? Ahahahahah

She wrote “So on Monday night, the candidates casually spouted liberal conspiracy theories that would frighten normal Americans, but warm the hearts of losers blogging from their mother’s basements.”

I’m confused though! It warmed my heart…but I don’t blog!

#14 Shane. I’d like to call your attention to the
fact that Germany, Japan, North Korea, and North
Vietnam, were also no “direct threat” to America.
I’ll try to spare you the full civics lesson, but
we are a nation of basically traitors and defectors
leaving homelands behind in search of freedom and
a better life. I’m interested to know what labels
you’d be giving president Bush, if say, the country
of your ancestry were being attacked, and we stood
around saying; “not our problem?” I don’t mean any
disrespect, but I’m greatful of the fact that you
at least have the cahounas (sp?) to admit that you’re
not military material, and opted-out, sparing the
    taxpayer’s further coin.
Thanks for your service, especially at Yokosuka.

    you’d open there!

  38. Philip Workman says:

    Re: “Adam Lord Says”

Look I am not trying to argue with you, but there are a lot of holes in your story. I am not saying that your friends “can’t” go to Iraq but Cmon man. These guys in this video were stuttering at the question when asked. It is clear as day. I just think that when the time comes to put up or shut is upon us. To rebut your statement about “Circumstances dictate not Conviction”. You have to be kidding me. You sound like a whining baby. Do you know how many men and woman sacrificed everything left jobs, families, even COLLEGE. Do you know how many people I knew that left college to go serve and came home and continued COLLEGE. In case you are wonderind yes I am a republican and yes I am a Iraq War Veteran. You are a joke. I was in the IRR (Inactive Ready Reserves) after I completed my 4 year active duty enlistment in 1995-1999. I walked up to the nearest deploying
reserve unit and deployed to Iraq in 2003 before the war started. I then came home got out again. Friends of mine were leaving again in 2005 so I went with a different unit AGAIN I walked right off the street and joined the unit and deployed to Iraq. I left a high paying fortune 500 company and yes my job was held when I came back. I agree that it does cause interuptions in your life and it iasnt easy. PLEASE do not HIDE behind college or situation as your scape goat. I do not think that you HAVE to serve in Iraq. Just dont make excuses… cause what it really comes down to is LACK of conviction Sgt. I caught this segment on Where’s The Outrage” HOW CAN I GET ONE OF YOUR BUMPER STICKERS???. I live in Utah and they have the fewest military enlisted in the country. Which Utah is also the reddest state. It would go nicely. With my “Another Military Family Speaks Out BRING THEM HOME NOW” The local chapter of MFSO told me I would get nasty notes on my car. Bring it on. My son is serving and is called unpatriotic because he won’t relist.. He has done his time. I am excited to see it go on the Daily show I hope I catch it.

  40. Gale says:

I don’t think its as simple a question as “Do you support the war?” You could ask, do you support the initial objective of the war? Or do you support the result of our leaving? Do you support our being there? I got back from Iraq this month and after being there I really don’t know what to think. I spent some time volunteering at a hospital, and saw a lot of people in rough shape. It raised some questions. We’ve seen what happened when we came in, but what would happen if we just picked up and left? Would the guys laying IEDs stop? Would the government be a secular democratic government? Would we be valuing human life if we left? I really don’t think as simple a question as “Do you support the war?” Because regardless of how we got in, (and its really a shame that we didn’t just get an invitation) if we just get up and leave, is everything going to be all right? Vietnam didn’t turn out so bad did it?

I have come to the conclusion that “patriots” can be both brave and feel duty-bound to serve in the military (e.g., Congressman Murtha, etal.) and be vertebrae-free, loud-mouthed, chest beating, chicken hawks like their leader Bush (aka “CinC” – Chicken-in-Chief), Cheney, FOXNEWS & Co. (to name but a few). Just thinking out loud. Have a happy day, y’all and thank you again, Mr. Blumenthal!

  46. Preston Powell says:

Perhaps we could hope to see a “Blumenthal Tonight” show on CNN or MSNBC in a few years????

One could only hope, Matt, but we all know that CNN is scared shitless to ever give someone of Max’s tenacity a platform on a cable news network. Hell, I heard CNN is in talks to replace Paula Zahn with Laura Ingraham! (And hopefully Lizard read that one as he’s under the impression that CNN is nothing but a Stalinist network in sheep’s clothing.) I almost fell outta my chair when I read they were considering trying-out Ingraham as a replacement of Zahn for a weekly trial run. We all know that Ingraham is nothing but a sexier, less loonier version of Ann Coulter. I can’t think of a single pundit at CNN, with the exception of Lou Dobbs and his obsession with illegal immigration, that pushes their extremist agenda so abrasively like the pundits at Fox News (e.g., O’Reilly, Hannity, Gibson, Hume, Barns, etc.). CNN and MSNBC are so scared of the Republican Noise Machine branding them with the big “L” word, instead of competing with Fox News as an alternative, they’re basically using their competitions same format. It’s the if-we-can’t-beat-‘em-join-‘em mentality what I find so sickening and poisonous about our media. But, hell, whadda I know. Bernard Goldberg wrote a book a few years ago about the “liberal media” and everyone folded and took his word for it. I mean, seriously, who needs substantial evidence of our media leaning left when we have such figures as Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, Gore Vidal, Norman Mailer, Michael Parenti and many, many others, flooding the channels with their propaganda?

Gawd, that darn liberal media! Make me sick, shoot!

Anyway, I like that Max hasn’t blown up to the extreme yet. Not that he doesn’t deserve it, but I like the fact he’s unknown to the point where he can still sneak in with his camera at these crypto-fascist conferences, and give investigative reports without getting caught and barred from the area. I’m not sure how Max will continue to keep his confidentiality as an investigative report in place if he keeps creating big YouTube hits and gaining mainstream news coverage for his efforts. It’s kinda a double-edged sword: on the one hand it’s good that Max is earning the media attention he deserves because he’s a talented journalist who isn’t scared to report and scrutinize issues that others are afraid of touching; but on the other hand, if he becomes too big of a name, that might ruin his covertness in other projects to where he can’t get the interviewees to speak candidly and expose themselves so embarrassingly.

I just hope Max balances it out to where he’s not too big where it blows his cover when he’s reporting other projects.

  47. Mike Mullins says:

Afterthought: Is it possible that the Republicans are so anti-abortion not because they truly elieve in the “Right to Life” but maybe…just maybe, because they are afraid the US might run short of under-privileged, poor people to fight their wars, leaving them to fight them instead?! The horror! The very thought must make every young Republican pee their pants!

  48. Philip Workman says:
