  4. Max,
Why such hatred for Christianity? I’ll agree that Hagee is moving to the extreme, but there is an amazing amount of hate for Christians who are doing nothing more than expressing their beliefs. Don’t lump all Christians in with those you see at these conferences. There are many thoughtful, intelligent Christians to engage on the issues. You don’t have to stoop to ridiculing those who don’t even know they’re being taped.

I guess I’m just appalled at the vitriol being spewed in the comments on Huffington’s website to this video. It’s a perfect setup for persecution of Christians. “They’re not like us so let’s lock them away!” Or worse. How mature is that?

Listen, I’m the first to admit that Bush has gone way overboard. I don’t believe we should attack Iran. If we do, say hello to $10 a gallon gas, if you can get it. I know that there are probably hidden agendas at our higher levels of government. But keep in mind that just because you and your readers believe you are geniuses for believing you are right and the Christians are wrong, there are plenty of arguments to counter your own claims to truth. For all of the talk about “live and let live” why doesn’t that tolerance extend to Christians? As for me, I’ll present Christ to those who ask and are looking. For the rest, I keep my mouth shut and pray for them and try my best to love them. I consider it their loss. They’re not interested in God.

All I’m saying is I’d rather throw my lot in with the Christians. Once you know them you see they are sincere and loving. Your crowd is the one who likes to tear people that are not like them to pieces based on the comments I read at Huffington’s site. I look forward to this response. I wonder how many people will respond with tolerance and acceptance and how many will respond with hate.

  5. Collin has a great post that helps further what I was trying to say. Thanks Collin!

  6. Jason Bosch says:

Thank you for this video and shedding light on these folks, they really need to be exposed.

  7. Absolutely awesome. I must salute you for a fantastic
    demonstration of raw journalism.
    dont stop.

  8. SJ says:

I must say that I read your article in the Huffington post and what occured to me is that you have a very serious misunderstanding of the end times view of those “wild eyed radical christians” However, what I find particularly interesting is the comments your readers left?

They claim to be the “enlightened” and politically correct crowd? Funny, I heard a lot of hate speech being thrown in the general direction of Christians?

  9. John G says:

Max, your videos make me so hot, I want to have your baby. NOW!

Ok, kidding aside, what you do is outstanding investigative journalism.
Thank you for the COURAGE it takes to face this kind of organized and well-funded insanity.
I understand this issue much better now. According to these folks, whoever brokers peace between
Isreal and its neighbors is the anti-christ. So, if you work for peace, you are working for the anti-christ?
    Peace = The Devil
War = God’s Plan = Jesus, who was called the Prince of Peace
But wait, Peace = The Devil?
I suppose trying to apply logic to insanity is pointless.
    Thanks for your tireless efforts.

    Love, your baby-daddy,

    Johnny G :-)

Keep doing your thing Max, I’ve really enjoyed watching your reports.

  11. Brian says:

One great use of words is to hide our thoughts. Thank you for exposing these people for what they really believe — you are my new hero. Please keep up the good work.

  12. Noel says:

I’ve just come across your videos and I like very much what I’ve seen so far. The only thing I find a little irksome is how, in your voiceover, you seem to be doing a pretty conscious Michael Moore voice impersonation. I don’t mean to be critical, I just feel that this takes away from the otherwise great quality of the pieces. I like Michael Moore, but hearing somebody seem to imitate his voice is just distracting. I am sure that your own natural voice would be just as good — in fact better — than the one you’ve adopted for the voiceovers. Give it some thought — you can realy make a name for yourself with these videos, I feel.

  13. Noel says:

(wish I could preview comments on your site — I made a typo in the previous post and can’t fix it.)

  14. Sarah says:

Max – Thank you for all you do to expose the true terrorists and greatest threats to America — most of whom were apparently at this conference. Wow… I don’t know whether to feel shocked, sad, disgusted, sorry for these people, fear or anger… or all of the above. Just absolutely incredible. Thank you for all your hard work — keep it up!

  15. Bill says:

As a Jew, may I politely (very politely) decline their support?

Speaking as a US Vet for 24 years, I have to ask the question:
Why does anyone care what a little punk like you thinks? Ask yourself and these
other bleeding heart liberals that read and watch your crap. What have you done for this country?

  20. A says:

As someone who is politically conservative but who is an
American Jew those interviews that you did really scare me.
As someone who agrees with Christians on a lot of
political subjects, sometimes I wonder if the wrong people
are elected maybe one day they might make me wear a cross
over my star of david or put up a picture of Jesus
over my picture of the Lubabvticher Rebbe. Although
at the same time it is either one extreme or another,
while those are the extreme christian views, the
extreme liberal views would have be bowing down to
Bin Laden and others. As Jews I guess we just
    have to stay in the
    middle.
    Thanks for
    your video.

  22. Hugh says:

Next time your at one of these conferences, ask them their view of the many Palestinian Christians living under harsh occupation in the West Bank and Gaza. What should the Christian response be to them?

  26. Lizard says:

    # 21 “A” Nice post. I give you five stars *****
for being “Fair and Balanced.” Indeed, a rare gem.

  27. Enterik says:

More like “false balance”, post #21 by “A” shows the kind of mistakes politically conservative posters are likely to make, even when trying to write what appears to be a moderate or centrist position. For example, “A” compares extreme christian views to extreme liberal as if there were no such thing as liberal christian, extreme or otherwise. Another mistake is “A” asserts that the liberal opposite of well documented extreme conservative anti-semitism is extreme subservience to radical islam. I doubt “A” can provide any support for this claim which seems to have been pulled out of the air to fit a wording that puts Jews in a proposed sensible middle. This idea is wrong because he has no evidence for his picture of extreme liberals.

  28. Lizard says:

    Enterik,
I’m not seeing the dichotomy, only someone who’s being
frank and honest, sans the vocabulary gymnastics.
I’ll take the “working class” observations over the
    high-brow “cerebralism,” anyday. Refreshing.
Christians by design, ARE liberals and have the most
missionaries, by far, posted around the world.
It’s the essence of morality that the political liberals
    find so noxious.

  29. Enterik says:

LIZARD: Enterik, I’m not seeing the dichotomy, only someone who’s being frank and honest, sans the vocabulary gymnastics.

ENTERIK: At least “A” is smart enough to be scared by the interviews. The post by “A” may be frank and honest but it also has a lot of spin and just plain wrong. “A” is making claims about extremist liberals that are not true and trying to make liberal the opposite of christian. Both of those ideas are mistakes even if they aren’t on purpose.

LIZARD: I’ll take the “working class” observations over the high-brow “cerebralism,” anyday. Refreshing.

ENTERIK: Now I know why you didn’t want to talk about the bogus black-and-white ideas posted by “A”, you make the same kind of spin. You can’t defend “A”s wrong ideas but you want to “win” so you mislead others with identity politics. You focus on the teacheriness of my post pointing out “A”s mistakes so that you can call me high-brow and “cerebralist” (with “” to make sure everyone knows you don’t really mean that as a compliment). “A” says nothing that makes those observations “working class” (with “” to make sure everyone knows it’s not an insult) but you give “A” that label anyways. That’s how you created your own false choice spin. That’s how you try to trick people into thinking wrong conservative ideas are good working class ideas. Your goal is to get people to stop thinking things through and act like they are still angry at some high school teacher. It is this kind of slimey tricks that fooled people into thinking Saddam was involved in the 9-11 attack. So I will ask you directly, where is your proof of liberals bowing down to Osama Bin Laden and others?

LIZARD: Christians by design, ARE liberals and have the most missionaries, by far, posted around the world. It’s the essence of morality that the political liberals find so noxious.

ENTERIK: can you talk about any idea without coming up with a false dichotomy? Political liberals are not amoral and Christian liberals are not apolitical. There is a solid morality based on compassion and responsibility that supports all of liberalism. For Christians that morality is most like the New Testament Gospels of Jesus. The book of revelation usually doesn’t come into liberal religion or politics all that much.

  30. Jeffery Humphrey says:

Good work man! I was in Iraq, wounded on 8 july 2004, and served two tours in Kosovo. While in Iraq I heard of an incident in Samarra where I was at where soldiers where breaking into masques and spray painting black crosses on religiouse items. TruthOut.org covered it. During Christmas we were reciving cards that thnked us for bringing the new crusades to the holy lands. Thats one of the reasons I dont serve anymore, I will not die for some one elses twisted beleifs, and I wont trade humanity for patriotism. I think its funny most Christians don’t know Jesus is in the Quran.

Keep up the good work, and bring these chicken hawks and war mongers to light.

  31. Emily says:

Yet another brilliant video Max. You did a great job.
I love how you threw the hypocriasy of that pastor guy
in his face and than they had you removed. The last time
I checked they had no right to throw you off especially
if they invited media to the event and you had a press
pass. As someone who is a Christian I’m totally disgusted
by these people. They don’t care at all about peace in
the middle east whether for the Jewish people and
certainly not for the Arabic/Muslim population who are humans
too and being treated horribly right now by the US/Britian
and Israel. Of course I’m sure they’d have no problem in
supporting Saudi Arabia of course. I would suggest to
these people that they really study the book of “Revelation.”
I have studied that book myself pretty well and it does not
say anything about the Jewish population not being
represented in Heaven in fact quite the opposite with
twenty four elders which means twelve from the oppostles
and twelve from the tribes. These people and their
ignorance of the Bible is just so dangerous and I would
suggest to them to read the book of Proverbs which is a
book written by King Solomon supposivley to his children
in which he talks about not blindly following anyone and
thinking for yourself even if someone claims to be like you.
I’m guessing these people forgot that Jesus was a Jew himself
and one thing the book of “Revelation” taught me is that
God truly does love people because even in the story from
this vision from John (I don’t believe John the Baptist)
God doesn’t force anyone to do anything and we always will
have freewill and the choice to choose our own destiny’s
and that to me is the greatest gift that anyone can give
you and the fact that these people want to take that away
from the Jewish population is just a shame and gross.
They also obviously don’t care about the innocent people
of Iran who are very western friendly and do like the
United States and have no ill feelings although if they
were to be attacked like Iraq that will surely change.
I also love the whole “they’ll follow us home” bit which
I remember has already happened back in 2005 or 2006 when
a group of Iraqi’s tried to enter the country with plans
to attack. As Stephanie Miller has said: I guess they don’t
have the internet and google maps. These people really are
boobs. Thanks again for another great job Max. And
speaking of “Revelation” I attend a Church of Christ
church and have been going there since 1987 when my family
moved to where I live currently and in all the time I’ve
been aware of sermons I can only recall one time studying
the book of “Revelation” and than the next time was in
the college Bible class I attend at my church where we
talked about the book and how it’s all a lot of symbolism
and how foolish it is for anyone to try to predict the future
with the book since it’s so vague.

  32. Emily says:

To Chris: why do you think Max is hating on Christian’s?
I didn’t hear him say anything mean about Christian’s in
general. If he did I’m sure I would have noticed and
corrected him as well since I’m too a Christian. I think
the point of Max’s video documentary is to show that
these people don’t support the Jewish population like so
many of them seem to think they do and it’s all for
selfish reason’s and when they get what they want (which
is Christ returning) they will throw the Jews to the
wolves so to speak. Than Max pointed out the hypocriasy
of the teachings of Jesus about being humble and helping
the poor and how this Hagee guy has a Greek million dollar
mansion. These people have real effects on our country
and we see more and more politicians going towards their
direction even Democrats like Clinton, Obama and Edwards
which is dangerous because of policy issues whether
dealing with foreign affairs or right here at home.
So I think it’s wrong that you said Max is bashing
    Christian’s because I don’t think he is.

  33. Emily says:

I also wanted to add I wonder how much of that money
people give towards Hagee and his group goes to his
family vs the group. That would be interesting to learn
in my opinion. It’s one thing all people don’t like and
    that’s being scammed.

  34. Emily says:

    Hey John G,
You’re going to have to fight me for Max’s baby. ;) I
also want to agree about the peace thing. I find that
very strange and is something I learned about this group
or at least what the people said about them anyways.
Maybe this is why they have such hatred for Jimmy Carter.
He really does want peace in the middle east and he not
long ago wrote a book about the whole ordeal and spoke up
for the Palestians and what’s really going on there sadly.

  35. Emily says:

Oh Max someone else you should interview about this
subject is Chris Hedges. He wrote a brilliant book
on this issue called “American Fascists.” He grew up
in the church and his father was a pastor and even went
to ministery school himself. While at this school he had
a professor who escaped Nazi Germany and warned him that
in the future when they were his age they would be fighting
the Christian fascists and told how you have to stop them
which is by fighting them and not by doing like sometimes
liberals like to do and talk (I’m a socialist who
is always up for a non-violent battle) and how if
more people stud up to Hitler it might have made a
difference. Anyways, Hedges basically talks about how
the church has changed over the years and Christian’s
as well and talks about different groups within the
“Christian Right” and their “war” on America. You should
definitley try if you can to get in touch with him and
interview him about this issue. I know at one point he
worked for the New York Times so I’m not sure if he
still does or not but it’s worth looking into anyways.
That book is totally up your ally I think.

  36. Emily says:

To the A person if you think liberals will have you
bowing down to Usama BinLadin than you don’t know liberals
at all. Liberals are all about personal freedoms and
choosing your own destiny and having the government
work and help you. So the people who won’t be making you
bow down to Usama BinLadin wouldn’t be the liberals or any
one else on the left like us socialists. The people who
would be are the real extreme Muslim’s who are more
rightwing in their thinking and ways etc. Plus you might
want to check into the relationship of Bush/BinLadin family’s.
Start with the Pakistan bank (former) BCCI.

  37. Emily says:

To Dennis H: Wow so you served in the millitary? And that
matters here why? It’s obvious you came here just to throw
that in people’s faces like it gives you some sort of
special privilages. It doesn’t. The Constitution does that
and also this is Max’s website which he runs and since
it’s a .com website I’m assuming he pays for this site
to be up and running so he can delete comments if he wanted.
I’m still pretty new to the website so I have no idea if
he does that but you being some soldier doesn’t have
anything to do with that and plus this is the internet
where people can be whomever they want to be so it
really doesn’t matter. Your opinion is no more important
than mine or anyone else’s here. It’s the Constitution
that gives me my freedom and here on this website
    it’s Max.

  38. Roy Tanner says:

    Dear Max:

I enjoyed your column and video on CUFI, but to be fair, I wanted to weigh-in briefly with a reasoned defense of those crazy evangelicals.

Like the God they serve, evangelical Christians certainly do not wish that “anyone should perish, but that everyone should come to a knowledge of the truth.”

In other words, the love of Christ (toward humanity) compels his believers to share the Gospel, which when believed avails the (unmerited) gift of eternal life – the same gift that the supposed dangerous zealot has already received.

Think of it this way. If God is life, anyone who chooses to be separated from the life Source cannot reasonably expect to live eternally. This is tragic since you and I were designed to live forever in a life characterized by: meaning, destiny, and relationship.

So if the message of the Bible is to be believed, our merciful God bends over backwards to invite His fallen humanity into a personal relationship, which avails access to life eternal. This is extended to both Jew and Gentile, as “salvation is of the Jews.”

Effectively, Christians are nothing more than unworthy beggars, sharing information on where the rest of the world can feast on the “Bread of Life.” Why is the harmless notion of “killing people with the kindness” (by grace through faith in Christ) so repugnant?

Conversely, author David Horowitz attempted to address an enigmatic alternative nexus between radical Islam and the American Left (in ‘Unholy Alliance”) that seems bent on countering “Christians United For Israel.” Maybe you could do an expose on this as well?

The bottom line is that no one need fear evangelical Christians. They are merely rational people informed by faith. And although religious zealots of every stripe are painted as dangerous, unlike Islamists, both the ends (eternal life) and the means to the end (peaceful discourse) are vitally important to evangelicals.

    Hugs and kisses,

    Roy Tanner

“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. An the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (Jn 1:4-5)

I’m sure there are some good christian dancers… but damn!

and the guy with the gay-hate t-shirt? pfft
isn’t he preaching to the converted there?

    Wacky as… wacky as.

  40. jim beam says:

Its amazing to me that these christians villify muslims for their beliefs, but still believe in many of the same ideas, namely waiting for a religious figure to reappear, and praying for death to the infidels(read: unbelievers). It sickens me with how un-concerned these people are with our current life on earth, and much more determined to bring on the rapture and murder of all that dont bow to jesus feet. Separate church and state please! And max, tell the next evangelical you see that i want their house when the great armageddon comes around, i like a good central air system for the “heat” ;)

  41. ghamal says:

Brilliant work Mr. Blumenthal. Truly frightening
    expose.

  42. As i said on the interview yesterday, great stuff.

  43. Paradigm says:

All you guys who think Max is ragging on Christians are wrong.

You have to make a distinction between criticism of
Christians and criticism of Armageddonism –
which is a vastly perverted version of Christianity.

I believe Armageddonists are vastly more dangerous than
any Islamic Fundamentalist group will ever be.

  44. judy says:

these people need a life, cause the one they have is a joke

  45. Anna says:

Reading some of these posts has been very interesting, and yet in some ways, painful.
You see, I am what many would call a “christian fundamentalist” – but really, I feel completely disconnected from the term. All I know is that I try to follow Christ as best as I can and love my neighbour. And that includes Jews, Muslims, Librals, Atheists, Homosexuals, the Poor, the Lonely ect. I may not necessarily agree with everything they do or believe in, but I do love them. And really – you will find that many of the Christians at the CUFI conference would say a similar thing – if you bothered to ask. Which notably, Max did not do.

What I really want to say right now is that I would die for the; well for want of a better word I’ll use “sinners”, regardless of whether or not they would turn to Christ. But I have to be honest with myself, would I die knowing that my sacrifice would be in vain??? I don’t know. God help me. AAnd here’s the thing – I love my life. And really, I want to have an oppurtunity to live it. I want to get married, have kids and watch them grow up. I’m not done. Which is why I wouldn’t want to be raptured right now. My “bags arn’t packed”. But of course the bags of an elderly man are packed, I mean he’s lived his life! Why didn’t Blumenthal ask a young “christian fundamentalist” if they were ready to go???

Anyway, I suppose I’ve gotten a little off topic. But really, I’ve noticed that a lot of the commentors are really uninformed as to what CUFI supporters believe. And of course, that’s not really supprising – I mean you come on the site, you watch the video, you see these people jumping around and dancing and doing all kinds of crazy, wierd things and saying stuff about hell and heaven and “eschatology” – I mean, you probably didn’t even know what the word meant until five minutes ago; and if you did, you thought it was so out there, unintellectual and cultish, that you decided to stay as far away from it as possible! So it’s no wonder that you come up with comments like:
“These people need a life, ’cause the one they have is a joke.”
and “I believe Armageddonists are vastly more dangerous than any Islamic Fundamentalist group will ever be.” Who are you to comment on the lives that people have??? And the last time I checked, Armageddonists hadn’t killed hundereds of innocent people in Semptember 11, or in the Bali and London Bombings. Although Jeremy Humphrey might argue that the wars in Iraq and Afganistan were engineered by “christian fundamentalists”. Well, I can’t assure you that they weren’t – but it is interesting to find that many historians argue that the wars were a combination of need for oil and fear of terrorism. Anyway Jeremy, if you are out there, I want you to know that CUFI WOULD NOT have supported the vandalisation of mousques or the cards that you were sent: they don’t even support the original crusades!

As for the idea of attacking Iran, well its nuclear program really does pose a threat, and NOT just to Israel, but to America, England, Australia, India ect. I would hope that the conflict would be peacefully resolved, but I fear that it will not, and judging from the past actions of extremist Muslim states, perhaps – and only perhaps – it would be better to take preventative measures. But as I do not know very much about the issue, I can only place my opinion tentatively.

Anyway I am tired of arguing – really, what’s the point? And there’s only one more thing I have left to say – the guy with the shirt that commented on homosexuals and animals? I really don’t understand how he could wear something like that. Like I said, before, we’re commanded to love others, even if we condem the things they do that God doesn’t want them to do. But I don’t have all the answers, ok?

If you have any comments or questions, you can email s4144230@student.uq.edu.au but please do not send rabid hate mail. I will accept INFORMED INTELLECTUAL disagreement/agreement only.

  46. John G (Comment 10) makes an excellent point:

“According to these folks, whoever brokers peace between Isreal and its neighbors is the anti-christ. So, if you work for peace, you are working for the anti-christ?”

    ***

If you watch the video again, you still will not see what Chris and other Dominionists want to read into it – for the sake of discrediting formidable incrimination.

    Keep on truck’n Max. You’re the man…

  47. The Sadly Disinterested will fall in with the Sincerely Deluded and the Insidiously Delighted, making the battle against the cruelty of the latter all the more difficult for the Insightfully Disgusted.

How can we “market” the Sadly Disinterested and the Sincerely Deluded? What would turn them on to the greatest of all governmental debates? How can we get them to see how men’s efforts to enforce a marriage of Church and State has always served to decimate minority ideologies?

America is made up of many religious and nonreligious minorities, who live by their own school of “do unto others”. How can the Religious Right conscionably ignore the fact that many people from these minorities will inevitably suffer severe discrimination and persecution, or feel forced to lead a false life in order to hide their differences, due to state-sanctioned condemnation of those differences of lifestyle ideology? Oh, wait a minute; some of this is already happening.

If the Sadly Disinterested and the Sincerely Deluded do not know that now is the time to be proactive in preventing a major blow to civil and religious liberty, the Insidiously Delighted will be laughing all the way to the Bank of Babylon and the Sadly Disinterested and the Sincerely Deluded will discover too late why some were Insightfully disgusted.

Although the theocrats have attempted to write discrimination into the Constitution and failed to do so for now, the legal ability to discriminate in many areas of life would become evident by the act of tearing down what remains of the wall that is supposed to separate church and state. Theocrats want to tear down that wall and rebuild it as a fortress that surrounds the union of church and state, while appreciation of “liberty of conscience” awakens too late to complete desolation.

The creators of the Religious Wrong want to create a society where wannabe Nebuchadnezzars can make people to bow or be thrown to the flames. They want that absolute power, where there remains no one to disagree with what they will declare as “divinely inspired” policy.

The Sadly Disinterested and the Sincerely Deluded don’t know to care about these matters. How can we advertise, or “sell” interest in the Church-State debate?

I’m speechless. How warped does one have to be to say they’re a Christian (”love thy neighbor..”, “blessed are the peacekeepers”, “thou shalt not kill”, “he who lives by the sword dies by the sword”, etc…) and lobby for the nuclear destruction of Iran? And where did this idea of the anti-Christ coming in the form of a peace mediator come from?

I really hope these people have some sort of medical problem that explains their unbelievably irrational and deranged view of the world. Please tell me they all ate too many paint chips or had high levels of mercury in their water supply as children.

    Paradigm

Wow, I’m totally impressed with your brilliant
    conclusion!

Us psychotic Christians have certain beliefs regarding
the 2nd coming of Christ and subsequent judgments meted,
based on the book of Revelation, and other relevant
    passages of Holy Scripture.

Now, how exactly is that congruent with MAKING
any of that happen? And I suppose it’s “hate
speech” for supporting the State of Israel, and
Jewish people in general, against fanatic
enemies and hateful concocted propaganda? We
state our beliefs, (let me guess, we are the ONLY
group stating any opinions about anything, right?)
but we DO NOT, and DO NOT advocate teaching our 8 year
olds how to put on bomb belts, walk into pizza parlors,
blow up and kill thousands of people guilty of going
to work, and WE do NOT threaten mass violence and the
lives of cartoonists who print cartoons we don’t care
for. And, if your comeback is some absurdity about
us doing such, but for the constraining effect of
people like you, take that baloney and eat it. Along
with everything else. When we have thousands more dead,
from suitcase dirty bombs, or more presents crashed
into buildings, enjoy more fun from those hateful
lunatics that attitudes like yours, multiplied manyfold,
enables and emboldens. Borrowing from Lenin, can you
    spell U S E F U L I D I O T ?

Seen any Christian lunatics cutting heads off on
    live TV?

Guess again, self righteous indignant “moralist!”

    attitudes like yours, multiplied manyfold
